Signal Theory is partnering with The BrandLab, a nonprofit organization bringing diverse voices to the marketing and advertising industry, to award a total of $5,000 through the agency’s fourth annual Resonance Scholarship. In addition to receiving one $5,000 or two $2,500 scholarships, recipients are guaranteed a paid internship with Signal Theory following their second year of college.

The application period is open from May 13 through June 28, 2024. Winners will be notified the week of July 22.

“We all have something to say, something to contribute, but first, we have to get invited to the table,” said John January, co-CEO of Signal Theory. “Through the Resonance Scholarship, we’re bringing diverse voices into the creative process so we can deliver campaigns that truly resonate with our clients and their customers.”

Resonance Scholarship Impact

The 2023 Resonance Scholarship was awarded to two recipients. Amy Truong interned with The BrandLab last summer and graduated from Kansas State University in May with a degree in marketing and a certificate in marketing technology and data analytics.

KU journalism major Aliya Kisivo just finished her sophomore year. Her degree concentration is in digital marketing communications, advertising and public relations, and she is minoring in business. Kisivo interned at The BrandLab last summer and will work as a content strategy intern at Signal Theory this summer.

“It’s one thing to extend internship opportunities, but then to acknowledge that there are external barriers that our interns may face in pursuit of their dream careers in the marketing and advertising industry is another thing entirely,” she said. “Signal Theory’s commitment to developing the pipeline of young black, brown and multicultural professionals shows up in many forms, with the Resonance Scholarship being a key strategy.”
