Signal Theory, in partnership with The BrandLab, has awarded its 2022 Resonance Scholarship to Lyric Evans, a Kansas City Kansas Community College freshman studying graphic design.  Now in its second year, Signal Theory established the Resonance Scholarship to build diversity in the KC advertising community and will award Evans with $10,000 and an internship with Signal Theory.

“Winning the Resonance Scholarship means the world to me. It is one of the greatest opportunities I’ve been given, and will provide the financial means and security to help me achieve my bachelor’s degree and pursue my dream of a career in the creative arts in my hometown of Kansas City,” said Evans.

Graduating from Kansas City, Kansas-based Sumner Academy of the Arts and Sciences in 2021, Evans says that she was unaware of professional opportunities in creative arts until she participated in The BrandLab’s program through her high school. Since then, she has been focused on helping others realize the opportunities that exist for those who wish to pursue creative careers.

“Lyric is a true asset to the KC community and the creative arts industry,” said John January, co-CEO, Signal Theory. “Her infectious energy, creativity and talent  are sure to take her far.  We are excited to see what she brings to the brands we know and love.”

Evans is an alumni of The BrandLab, a non-profit working with students of color and/or students from lower-income households. The BrandLab collaborates with school districts throughout the Kansas City area, including Kansas City Public Schools and districts in Kansas City, Kan., south Kansas City, Independence and Winnetonka.

“Participants in The BrandLab programming gain exposure to career pathways they may not have otherwise known existed. Industry partners like Signal Theory help remove barriers for students to meet their goals with access to scholarships, and paid internships,” said Maggie McCracken, CEO, The BrandLab. “Lyric is just one example of the incredible talent that will advance the KC ad community thanks to partners like Signal Theory. We can’t wait to see all that Lyric will accomplish in the future.”
