
The Content Strategy Director is responsible for setting the vision and strategic direction for the Content Strategy discipline. This leader ensures the team delivers innovative, effective, and integrated content solutions across all channels—including social, influencer, long-form, website, SEO/AEO, podcasts, and emerging formats. The Director is a champion for team culture and growth, fostering an environment where content strategists thrive, develop, and are matched to projects that build their expertise. The Director also plays a key role in cross-discipline collaboration, modeling best practices for partnership with creative, account, analytics, and other teams to ensure project success and agency growth. The Content Strategy Director reports to the Senior Director Brand Strategy and will manage Senior Content Strategists and Content Strategists.
Responsibilities
The Content Strategy Director will:
Lead:
Understand the firm’s growth opportunities in content strategy and create visionary plans and procedures that build our capabilities and lead to incremental business.
Keep a finger on the pulse of evolving content strategy technologies, and organize resources and skillsets to ensure the firm stays current with content strategy opportunities.
Oversee the quality and strategic alignment of all content deliverables.
Ensure content strategies are innovative, effective, and integrated with broader brand and
business objectives.
Manage a Team:
Foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performing team culture.
Mentor, coach, and develop team members, ensuring they are assigned to projects and clients that match and grow their skillsets.
Lead recruitment and onboarding of new team members, building a team that aligns with the discipline’s vision and agency needs.
Design and implement training programs, processes, and resources that elevate the entire team's creative capabilities and ensure consistent quality across deliverables.
Communicate:
Articulate the vision and strategic direction for the entire Content Strategy discipline to leadership, clients, and cross-functional teams in a way that builds buy-in and drives organizational alignment.
Translate complex content strategy concepts into business language that resonates with executives and key stakeholders, demonstrating clear ROI and business impact.
Confidently communicate emerging trends and their implications to both internal teams and clients.
Effectively communicate and collaborate with leaders from other disciplines to ensure integrated solutions and model collaborative best practices for my team.
Create:
Create and continuously evolve the strategic vision for the Content Strategy discipline, establishing new methodologies, frameworks, and approaches that differentiate Signal Theory.
Create content strategies that span multiple touchpoints and customer journey stages, ensuring consistency and amplification across all brand interactions.
Drive the strategic use of AI and emerging technologies within content strategy, creating guidelines and best practices that keep the discipline at the forefront of industry innovation.
Create measurement frameworks and success metrics that demonstrate the business impact of content strategy initiatives across diverse content formats.
Ensure that teams are creating content that maintains brand integrity and adheres to best practices.
Present:
Present complex content strategy initiatives to C-Suite executives and senior leadership, translating tactical recommendations into strategic business imperatives to drive decisions.
Adapt presentation style and content depth in real-time based on audience expertise, interest level, and decision-making authority, ensuring maximum impact and engagement.
Deliver compelling presentations at industry conferences, client events, and internal forums that position Signal Theory as a content strategy thought leader.
Facilitate thoughtful discussion about work, overcoming obstacles and driving business decisions and incremental growth.
Think strategically:
Think holistically across all content formats (social, long-form, website, SEO/AEO, podcasts, emerging platforms) to create unified strategic approaches that amplify brand messaging and maximize content ROI.
Identify strategic connections and synergies between different content channels that others might miss, creating integrated content ecosystems that drive exponential rather than additive results.
Connect content strategy initiatives directly to business outcomes, thinking beyond engagement metrics to metrics like revenue generation, customer value, and market share growth.
Think about how AI, automation, and emerging technologies will reshape content strategy, positioning the team to leverage these tools for competitive advantage.
Develop 3-5 year strategic roadmaps for content strategy capabilities, identifying skill gaps, technology needs, and market opportunities that will drive sustainable competitive advantage.

Requirements
The requirements and experience the Senior Content Strategist will need to have include:
8+ years of experience developing and implementing content or social media strategy, connecting directly with senior level clients and supporting their business objectives.
Management and leadership experience
Knowledge of consumer research platforms (Crimson Hexagon, Netbase, Infegy Atlas or similar), content/social platforms (i.e., Hubspot, Sprout Social or similar) and web SEO research platforms (Semrush, Ahrefs, GA4) preferred
Clearly self-motivated, resourceful, creative and collaborative.
